Architecture M was appointed to look at two units on the site that were originally designated as a supermarket. Three levels of affordable apartments (that started at £113,000) were added above the ground floor level of each unit to create an internal street. The street was planted with tall bamboo to accentuate the crescent form of the plan, whilst affording privacy to the opposing apartments.

Commenting on winning the award, David Mitchell, Tilfen Land’s project manager for The Reach said: “We were delighted to win this prestigious award… ensuring that effective sustainable development was combined with the highest levels of design and architecture.”

The judges’ report on The Reach stated that: “These awards are a barometer of class and quality, blending the very best in new home design and concept with striking modern lifestyle statements.”
